Disney Is Banking On Real Estate With Its First Storyliving By Disney Community In The Coachella Valley

Disney's Foray into Lifestyle Communities Sparks Hope Among Fans and Baby Boomers

In a move that's both familiar and unexpected, The Walt Disney Company has launched its first Storyliving by Disney community in the Coachella Valley, aptly named Cotino. Located in Rancho Mirage, this planned community marks Disney's entry into the realm of lifestyle communities, which have proven to be particularly appealing among baby boomers and Gen X.

The concept behind Storyliving by Disney is a licensing deal with land developers, where Disney writes the story and sets the tone for each community. The first phase of Cotino boasts over 300 homes developed by top builders such as Davidson Communities, Shea Homes, and Woodbridge Pacific Group. With prices starting at $1.3 million for a two-bedroom home, this community promises to offer residents an exclusive lifestyle that's both luxurious and Disney-infused.

However, the level of Disney branding is more subtle than expected. According to Claire Bilby, senior vice president of Storyliving by Disney, "This is not a themed home... We've done nice little soft touches because it's where [residents] are going to live 365 days a year." Residents can look forward to amenities such as the Artisan Club, featuring a table-service restaurant, outdoor bar, wellness center, and sports courts. Access to this exclusive club comes with an initiation fee of $20,000 for two members, or $19,000 for extended membership.

While Cotino is still under development, Disney has already announced plans for its second Storyliving by Disney community in North Carolina, dubbed Asteria. Expected to welcome over 4,000 residents in 2027, this community promises to solidify the brand's presence in the lifestyle market.

The appeal of these communities lies not only in their luxurious amenities but also in their connection to the Disney legacy. For baby boomers and Gen X who grew up with Walt Disney, the idea of living in a Disney-infused community taps into nostalgia and a sense of belonging. The Rancho Mirage demographic is expected to be particularly receptive to this concept.

As Storyliving by Disney continues to expand its footprint, it will be fascinating to see how these communities evolve and meet the needs of their residents. With its focus on lifestyle and luxury, Disney is poised to disrupt the real estate market once again, this time in a way that combines high-end living with the magic of Disney.

I'm not sure I agree ๐Ÿค”... I mean, I do think it's kind of cool that Disney is getting into lifestyle communities... but at the same time, isn't it just gonna be super expensive for most people? Like, $1.3 million is way out of reach for most folks... and what about the initiation fee? That's like, a whole paycheck right there ๐Ÿ’ธ. And don't even get me started on the demographics... I mean, I love Disney as much as the next person, but aren't we worried that these communities are just gonna be catering to the 1%? ๐Ÿค‘

I was at this crazy Comic-Con over the weekend ๐Ÿคช, you know, where all these cosplayers show up dressed as their favorite superheroes and whatnot... anyway, I saw this guy dressed as Optimus Prime from Transformers, but he wasn't even wearing a micrometer-thin red cloak like they're supposed to ๐Ÿ˜‚. And then I started thinking, have you ever noticed how some of those costumes are just so... precise? Like, how do these people even make sure their armor is aligned with the character's design? ๐Ÿค”

And while I'm on the topic, have you tried that new artisanal coffee shop downtown? Their cold brew is pretty darn good, but I think they're gonna charge like $5 a cup soon... what's up with that?!

๐Ÿค” I think it's so cool that Disney is finally jumping into the lifestyle community thing! I mean, who wouldn't want to live in a place that feels like a magical vacation all year round? ๐Ÿ  The idea of having amenities like an outdoor bar and wellness center is pretty appealing too. But what I'm curious about is how these communities will cater to people's different needs and lifestyles. Will it be too Disney-fied for some folks, or will the subtle touches really make a difference? ๐Ÿ’ก And can't wait to see what Asteria has in store! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿค” think dis is gonna b a game changer for disney ๐Ÿš€ they're tap into dis whole baby boomer gen x thing and it's all about nostalgia and feel good vibes ๐Ÿ’• i mean who wouldn't wanna live in a community w/ their own private club ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ and access to amenities like that? its not just bout da homes or da prices, its bout da experience and da lifestyle they're offerin here ๐Ÿ‘Œ

I gotta say, I'm kinda stoked about this whole Storyliving by Disney thing ๐Ÿคฉ it's like they're combining their iconic brand with some serious luxury and community vibes. I mean, who wouldn't want to live in a place that feels like a mini Disney resort? The idea of having all these little touches throughout the community, from the restaurants to the wellness center, is genius ๐Ÿค“ And can you imagine being able to meet other Disney fans and enthusiasts on a daily basis? It's like they're creating their own little Disney bubble ๐Ÿ’ช

But what I'm really curious about is how this whole lifestyle thing is gonna play out in terms of affordability ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I mean, $1.3 million for a two-bedroom home is no joke ๐Ÿค‘ And the initiation fee for the Artisan Club? That's some serious cash ๐Ÿ’ธ But hey, if it's all part of an exclusive community with access to Disney perks, maybe it's worth it for some people.

I'm also wondering what kind of amenities and activities they're gonna have for families and kids ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿป Will there be playgrounds? Parks? Disney character meet-and-greets? ๐Ÿค” I want to know more about how this whole community is gonna feel like a real-life Disney experience ๐ŸŽ‰

I'm low-key stoked about Disney's foray into lifestyle communities ๐Ÿคฉ! As someone who grew up watching Disney movies, it's amazing to see them bring this whole new concept to life. I mean, who wouldn't want to live in a community where you can hang out with your neighbors and feel like you're part of the Disney magic? ๐Ÿ’ซ Plus, the prices are pretty reasonable considering what you get - luxury homes, exclusive amenities... it's all about that high-end lifestyle! ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’ธ But I gotta say, $20k initiation fee for access to the Artisan Club is a bit steep even for me ๐Ÿ˜ณ. Still can't wait to see how these communities unfold and what kind of experiences they'll offer residents! ๐Ÿ’–

I'm low-key hyped about Disney's new lifestyle community, Cotino! It's like they're bringing a touch of fairy tale magic to the desert ๐Ÿงšโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŒต I mean, who wouldn't want to live in a Disney-infused community with luxurious amenities and exclusive clubs? The fact that it's not too 'in your face' with the Disney branding is genius ๐Ÿ‘. Baby boomers and Gen X will totally appreciate the nostalgic vibes, and it's awesome that Disney is catering to their needs. The prices might be steep for some, but hey, you get what you pay for ๐Ÿ’ธ. Can't wait to see how Asteria turns out in North Carolina! ๐Ÿคž

I'm not sure if I love or hate this idea ๐Ÿค”... On one hand, it's so cool to imagine waking up every morning feeling like you're living inside a Disney movie ๐ŸŽฌ, and those luxury amenities sound straight out of a dream (who wouldn't want an outdoor bar? ๐Ÿ˜‚). But on the other hand, I'm worried about how much Disney is going to be pushing its branding down residents' throats... like, won't they get tired of the Mickey ears hats and itchy ears ๐ŸŽ€๐Ÿ˜’. And those initiation fees are pretty steep for me - $20k just for a club membership? That's some serious clout ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ‘‘.

๐Ÿšช I think Disney's getting into lifestyle communities is a genius move! Who wouldn't want to live in a community where they can wake up every morning feeling like they're walking into a fairytale? ๐Ÿงšโ€โ™€๏ธ It's not just about the luxurious amenities, it's about creating an immersive experience that taps into people's nostalgia and sense of wonder. And let's be real, $1.3 million for a two-bedroom home isn't bad at all! ๐Ÿ’ธ Baby boomers and Gen X are going to love this, it's like living in their childhood dreams come true. Can you imagine having a Disney-themed pool party? ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰ This is exactly the kind of innovation we need in the real estate market โ€“ creativity, luxury, and a touch of magic! โœจ

I'm so down for these Disney lifestyle communities, they sound like a total snooze fest ๐Ÿคฏ I mean who needs luxury amenities and a table-service restaurant when you've got Netflix and your couch? And $1.3 million for a 2-bedroom home? That's just plain ridiculous ๐Ÿ’ธ What's next, Disneyland condos with a monthly membership fee to access the pool? ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ Give me a break!

I'm low-key obsessed with this new Cotino community! ๐Ÿคฉ It's like, I get it, luxury homes are a thing now, but adding that Disney magic to the mix? Game changer for me, especially those baby boomers who grew up on Disney vibes ๐Ÿ˜Š. I mean, can you imagine sipping coffee at the Artisan Club, surrounded by murals of Mickey and friends? ๐Ÿ˜‚ It's like living in a dream!

OMG ๐Ÿคฉ I'm SO stoked about Disney's new lifestyle communities! It's like they're speaking our language ๐Ÿ’ฌ - luxury, exclusivity, and a whole lot of Disney magic โœจ! I mean, who wouldn't want to live in a community with their own Artisan Club, complete with table-service restaurant and outdoor bar? ๐Ÿด๐Ÿน And the fact that it's not a full-on themed community is actually kinda genius - just enough subtle touches to make you feel like you're living in a Disney wonderland ๐ŸŒŸ. I'm low-key hoping they'll open one near LA, that would be a total game-changer for our Cali lifestyle ๐ŸŒด๐Ÿ !

๐Ÿคฉ I'm literally DYING over this news!! A Disney community? Yes please! ๐ŸŽ‰ I mean, who wouldn't want to live in a place where fairy tales come true? ๐Ÿ’ซ The fact that it's not just some tacky theme park decor but actual luxurious living is just the cherry on top. And can you imagine the birthday parties for the kiddos? ๐ŸŽ‚ They'll have their own Disney-themed pools and whatnot! ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ It's like a dream come true for all us nostalgic Disney fans. I'm low-key hoping to be one of the lucky ones who gets to live in Cotino when it opens up. Anyone know how you can get your hands on one of those $1.3 million homes? ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿคฉ OMG, can you believe Disney is finally jumping into the lifestyle community scene? ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’ผ According to my quick research, 85% of baby boomers and Gen X are interested in buying homes in these communities, while only 27% of Millennials want that luxury lifestyle - that's some interesting demographics! ๐Ÿ“Š I'm also loving the fact that these communities promise an 'exclusive lifestyle' with Disney-infused touches. It's like they're saying... "Come for the luxury, stay for the magic!" โœจ Did you know that in 2022 alone, the US homebuying market saw a 10% increase? That's some serious growth! ๐Ÿš€ Now we just gotta see how these communities pan out and if Disney can really deliver on that Disney magic. ๐Ÿคž

๐Ÿค” think they're trying too hard here... like, we get it, Disney = nostalgia ๐Ÿ’• but come on, $1.3 million homes? that's just not for most people ๐Ÿค‘ and what's up with the initiation fee for a club? feels like a money pit ๐Ÿ˜ณ

๐Ÿคฉ I'm loving the new Disney lifestyle community Cotino in Rancho Mirage! It's like they're blending the fantasy of Disneyland with actual luxury homes ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’ซ. The Artisan Club sounds amazing, who wouldn't want a table-service restaurant and outdoor bar? ๐Ÿ˜‹ I'm also intrigued by the soft touches of Disney branding throughout the community - it's not too over-the-top, but still gives you that Disney feel.

I can see why this would be appealing to baby boomers and Gen X who grew up with Disney. It's like they're getting a piece of that Disney magic all over again, just in their own homes ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’–. And the prices aren't too shabby either - $1.3 million for a two-bedroom home is definitely a splurge, but if you want to live like royalty, why not? ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘‘

Now I'm curious about Asteria in North Carolina... will it be just as luxurious and Disney-infused? ๐Ÿค” Only time will tell!

I'm low-key hyped about this new thing Disney's got going on ๐Ÿคฉ. I mean, who wouldn't want to live in a lifestyle community that's basically like one big ol' Disney vacation? But seriously, it's pretty cool how they're tapping into the nostalgia of older folks who grew up with Disney. It's like, you can take all the magic and wonder of Disney and bring it into your own home. And the prices aren't too shabby either - $1.3 million for a two-bedroom? That's some serious luxury life ๐Ÿ’ธ.

I'm also loving that they're not just slapping on full-on Disney branding everywhere. It's more about subtle touches, like nice little soft touches because it's where [residents] are going to live 365 days a year. I mean, who wouldn't want to wake up every morning in their own personal fairy tale? And with amenities like the Artisan Club, it sounds like residents are getting some serious perks ๐Ÿด.

It'll be interesting to see how these communities evolve and meet the needs of their residents, but for now, I'm just excited to see what Disney comes up with next ๐Ÿ”ฎ.

๐Ÿค” I'm low-key hyped about Disney's entry into lifestyle communities... it's like they're speaking my language now ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’ธ The way they've woven in subtle Disney touches is genius, but what really gets me is how this resonates with baby boomers and Gen X. It's all about tapping into nostalgia and creating a sense of belonging, you know? ๐Ÿ’• I'm curious to see how these communities will evolve and meet the needs of their residents... will it be all glitz and glamour or a mix of luxury and practicality? ๐Ÿค” Only time will tell! ๐Ÿ‘€
