Derek Owusu: 'I didn't read a book until the age of 24'

ugh dont believe every1 thats gonna read a book at 24 its not like owusu hadnt been literate since he was 5 lol ๐Ÿ™„ and what's with this obsession w/ old classic authors? give me somethin more modern like trey songz or Kendrick lamar any day ๐Ÿ’ฅ

aww man that's so inspiring ๐Ÿค— I can imagine how different life would be if we discovered our passions at a younger age... like Derek Owusu, he was literally 24 and only then found his love for reading ๐Ÿ˜Š it's amazing how books can change our perspectives and help us grow as individuals. I'm not surprised that some of the books on his list are considered classics ๐Ÿ“š they have a way of staying with you long after finishing them. what I'd love to know is, has Derek Owusu ever thought about sharing more of his story, like his experiences as a foster kid or how he overcame any challenges? ๐Ÿค”

man this is so inspiring ๐Ÿคฉ i mean think about it if owusu didn't develop a love for reading until he was 24 life would've been really different who knows what kind of person he'd be today? but luckily he found solace in books and now we have this amazing writer to thank for sharing his story with us ๐Ÿ’ก anyway i'm just gonna say that it's awesome to see how owusu has grown as a reader and how it's impacted his life in such a positive way ๐Ÿ“š love the way he talks about finding comfort in certain authors like bertrand russell too ๐Ÿ‘Œ

I'm so glad to see authors like Derek Owusu sharing their stories about how reading impacted their lives. It's amazing how a book can shift our perspective and change everything! ๐Ÿ“š I totally relate when he talks about struggling with a particular author and then discovering the beauty in their work again. There's something special about finding that comfort read, you know? ๐Ÿ˜Š For me, it's all about finding books that make me feel seen and understood. And I love how Owusu credits his literary influences for helping him find his own voice as a writer ๐Ÿ™. It just goes to show that reading is a journey, not just about consuming books, but also about discovering who we are and what we want to say through our words ๐Ÿ’ซ

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ก I think its kinda cool how people can discover their passion for reading later on in life, like Derek Owusu did. Like, we all know reading is supposed to be this awesome thing that opens doors and stuff, but for some people it's just not until they're a bit older or go through some tough times that they find their love for books. And its awesome how he's discovered new authors and books over the years, like his favorite comfort read Bertrand Russell's "The Problems of Philosophy". I mean, who wouldn't want to escape into some good books when you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed? ๐Ÿคฏ

Ugh, I'm so over how outdated those Biff and Chip books are ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Who thought teaching kids to read with those cheesy stories was a good idea? And don't even get me started on the lack of diverse authors in schools... it's no wonder Derek Owusu had to wait until 24 to develop a passion for reading, I mean, where were all the books about people from different backgrounds and experiences when he needed them? ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ‘€
