Celtic 3-1 Rangers (AET): Hoops beat 10-man Gers in extra-time to reach Scottish League Cup final

Celtic Overcome 10-Man Rangers to Reach Scottish League Cup Final

Martin O'Neill, Celtic's interim manager, has won his first Old Firm game in over 20 years with a 3-1 victory over Rangers in extra-time. The Hoops took advantage of a red card for Thelo Aasgaard and ran away with the win, advancing to the Scottish League Cup final against St Mirren.

The match started on the front foot for Celtic, who looked like they were about to open the scoring in the 19th minute but were denied by VAR. However, it was just six minutes later that Jonny Kenny headed Celtic into the lead with a powerful shot from Arne Engels' corner. The game was well underway when Thelo Aasgaard committed a straight red card against Anthony Ralston in the 39th minute for studding him on the thigh.

Celtic's pressure eventually paid off as they took the lead again after James Tavernier equalized for Rangers from the penalty spot nine minutes from time. Celtic were awarded three points, despite having a player less than their opponents throughout most of the match and even at full strength in extra-time, when Callum McGregor scored before substitute Callum Osmand sealed the win.

O'Neill praised his team's performance, stating that it was "a great effort" but taking no credit for the win. He also highlighted his new players' skills, particularly Osmand, saying he is "very sharp." The former Ireland boss may be set to take charge of Celtic for the final after an interim period, leaving fans eagerly awaiting news about O'Neill's future role at the club.

Celtic will now face St Mirren in the Scottish League Cup final on December 14. The Hoops have won 28 matches against Rangers under O'Neill's leadership.

Just crazy how Celtic managed to turn it around after that red card 🀯, they were down 10 men and still found a way to take the win! Martin O'Neill's management skills are on point, gotta give him credit for getting the most out of his team 😊. And Callum Osmand is definitely one to watch, what a signing! Celtic fans are gonna be hyped for the final against St Mirren, fingers crossed they bring home that trophy πŸ†!

aww man thats such a sick win for Celtic 🀩, they really showed some heart and determination out there, especially with only 10 men πŸ’”. Thelo Aasgaard getting red carded was super unlucky for rangers 😞 but Celtic took advantage of it and ran away with the game. O'Neill's team is looking strong, I'm loving how he's praising his new players 🀝, Callum Osmand seems like a great addition to the squad! πŸŽ‰πŸ‘

πŸ˜’ Ugh, can't believe I had to wade through so much unnecessary drama about that Celtic vs Rangers match... Like, who cares if they won or not? πŸ™„ It's just the same old Old Firm rivalry, right?

And seriously, have you seen how long it took for them to get a goal? 19 minutes in and then another 6 mins later. I was waiting for my lunch break to arrive by that point! πŸ˜‚ The VAR call was BS too, I mean, come on! You're just gonna deny them a goal because of some fancy technology?

And the red card? Thelo Aasgaard, mate, what were you thinking?! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ And then to have Celtic run away with it in extra time? No wonder they won. πŸ˜’ Not that I'm complaining or anything... (not). It's just so frustrating to watch a match that's more drama than actual football.

By the way, can we please talk about how outdated this forum is? The layout is all wrong and the comments are buried under like 10 threads of replies. I swear, I have to scroll through half my history to find something worth reading πŸ˜’

OMG, what a game!!! 🀯 Celtic totally dominated it, and to be honest, I'm shocked they lost by only one goal πŸ™„. That Thelo Aasgaard red card was HUGE for them, and I think it changed the momentum of the whole match. And can we talk about Callum Osmand? 😍 He's like a game-changer! The way he scored that winning goal in extra-time... magic ✨. Martin O'Neill seems like a great manager too - he was so humble about his win, but also gave credit to his team for their hard work. I'm loving the energy at Celtic right now, and I'm excited to see what happens in the Scottish League Cup final πŸ†πŸ’₯

OMG 🀯 did u see this tho?! Celtic just annihilated Rangers 3-1 in OT 😱 Thelo Aasgaard got a red card tho what a shame for the home team! πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ Celtic was down to 10 men but still managed to run away with it πŸ’ͺ And Jonny Kenny's header from Arne Engels' corner was pure magic ✨ 28 wins against Rangers under O'Neill is insane 🀯 will be interesting to see if he stays on as manager for the final

man this is weird theyre saying martin o nieill wont be taking charge of celtic for the final but whats gonna happen to him after that? hes all up in the interim thing like hes not trying to make it permanent or something πŸ€” also i'm lowkey surprised rangers had such a meltdown with 10 men on the field what was going through their heads?

aww, that's amazing!!! πŸ™Œ Celtic is on fire right now! I can imagine how emotional it must be for Martin O'Neill to get his first Old Firm win after 20 years... all those years of waiting and then BAM! He gets this incredible victory with a player down and still manages to run away with the win. The squad must have been so pumped up by Callum Osmand's goal in extra-time 🀩

And I love that O'Neill is staying humble, giving credit to his new players... it's clear he believes in them and is excited about their potential 😊 St Mirren better be ready for a tough game on the 14th! Celtic fans must be over the moon right now 🌟
