Lincoln-Way East's Jonas Williams Returns from Injury, Propels Team to Number Three Spot in Week 11 Rankings.
Jonas Williams led his team, Lincoln-Way East, to a 45-0 victory over Stevenson in the first round of the Class 8A playoffs, propelling them up the rankings. The Griffins' resurgence was expected after Williams returned from injury. They also knocked off top-ranked Maine South earlier this season.
The Super 25 teams had a successful Week 11, with few changes to the rankings. York lost to Lyons and dropped out of the list, but the opening created an opportunity for Lincoln-Way West to rise. Bolingbrook, Lockport, Oswego, and Richards were among other contenders that secured spots in the top 25.
However, crowds at games have been affected by Halloween, with reports suggesting that they sounded down on Saturday. But Mount Carmel's game at Belleville East saw a decent crowd despite it not being as large as some of their previous matches.
As for this week's rankings, Mount Carmel remains atop the list at number one, followed closely by Brother Rice in second place. Lincoln-Way East, who was 14th last week but jumped up to third spot after Williams' return from injury, is now sitting comfortably behind them. Maine South and Nazareth round out the top five.
In other news, Montini, Glenbard West, Fremd, and Batavia have maintained their positions in the top ten. Meanwhile, Downers Grove North takes 10th place in the rankings. Warren rises to number 11 spot after defeating Bolingbrook, while Barrington drops back down to 12th.
Carmel, St. Charles North, Fenwick, Providence, and Lyons also moved up their rankings, but there were some notable falls from other teams. The list concluded with Prairie Ridge holding onto the 18th position, Lincoln-Way Central moving into 19th spot, Hersey settling at 21st place, Bradley-Bourbonnais rising to 22nd spot, and St. Francis finishing in 25th.
These rankings will undoubtedly have an impact on the final stretch of the season as teams prepare for their playoff matches.
