Netflix to Stream, Theatrical Release for Drama 'Humans in the Loop' Ahead of US Launch on Nov 10.
A new drama film "Humans in the Loop", directed by Aranya Sahay and executive produced by Bijjo Toppo, has secured a dual release plan. Netflix will stream the movie from November 10 in the United States while boutique label One Rising is set to launch a limited theatrical run with an impact campaign starting on November 7 in Los Angeles.
The story follows an Indigenous woman who works at a data-annotation facility in rural India and trains AI systems, shedding light on the unseen human toll behind the global tech industry. Storiculture and Sauv Films produced the film, which also features producers Mathivanan Rajendran, Sarabhi Ravichandran, and Shilpa Kumar.
"Humans in the Loop" won Fipresci India's Grand Prix award and has garnered attention for its unique blend of intimate human storytelling with pressing global conversations about AI and social inequities. Misaq Kazimi, who previously worked on Mohsen Makhmalbaf’s "The Gardener", is now set to steer the U.S. campaign.
Sahay expressed gratitude for having Kazimi as executive producer, stating that he understands the film's heart and relevance. The seven-day Los Angeles run from November 7 to 13 positions the film for awards consideration, with Sahay attending screenings for Q&A sessions on AI ethics, labor, and representation.
The movie boasts a diverse cast including Sonal Madhushankar, Ridhima Singh, Geeta Guha, Anurag Lugun, Monika, and Sahay. Monica Tiwari and Harshit Saini lensed the film, with Swaroop Reghu and Sahay handling editing duties.
A trailer for the U.S. release has been unveiled, providing a glimpse into the film's narrative.
