Amazon delivery drone smashes into apartment building, goes up in smoke weeks after collisions halted program: ‘Man down’

Amazon's delivery drone crashes into apartment building weeks after program suspension.

A tragic incident has unfolded in Richardson, Texas, as an Amazon drone crashed into a residential apartment building on February 4. The drone, identified as an Amazon MK30 model, was delivering a package when it suddenly lost control and slammed into the entrance of the building. Cesarina Johnson, who witnessed the crash from her apartment window, captured the incident on video.

Johnson described the scene as chaotic, saying "Oh s—! Oh God! Man down" as she saw the drone crashing towards the front entrance. She continued to film the incident, which included debris flying through the air after the drone hit the building. The drone's propellers were still spinning when it crashed, and Johnson reported that there was a strong burning smell.

Firefighters responded quickly to the scene, where they found the smoking drone and began examining the damage. They worked with Amazon employees to collect the drone's pieces and load them onto a truck for disposal.

Amazon has apologized for the incident and stated that they are investigating the cause of the crash. The incident occurred about two weeks after the company temporarily suspended its commercial drone delivery operations in Texas and Arizona due to software malfunctions caused by light rain at their testing facility in Pendleton, Oregon.

This latest incident raises concerns about the safety and reliability of Amazon's drone delivery program, particularly in areas with high population densities such as apartment buildings. As the use of drones for package delivery becomes more widespread, regulators and policymakers are likely to take a closer look at the risks associated with this technology.

Ugh 🤦‍♂️, can you believe this?! A drone just crashed into an apartment building in Texas... what if someone was hurt or killed?! 😱 I mean, Amazon says they're investigating, but how many times does it take for them to get it right? And another thing, what's with these temporary suspensions due to software malfunctions?! 🤯 It seems like a never-ending cycle of problems. They need to figure out ways to make their drones safer and more reliable ASAP ⏱️. I'm not saying drones are all bad, but this just shows how vulnerable they can be... it's time for some serious reform 📝.

Wow 💥😱 Amazon needs to get their drone game together 🤦‍♂️! Delivering packages via drones is supposed to be all convenient and whatnot but it seems like they're still having major issues 🙅‍♂️. A crash into an apartment building? That's just a recipe for disaster 😨. I mean, you'd think with all the fancy tech and testing they've done, they could've gotten it right by now 🤔. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how they fix this and make drone delivery safer for everyone 🚀💨

ugh what a nightmare 🤕... can you imagine being like cesarina johnson and witnessing that?! 😱 it's crazy how one wrong move can lead to chaos. i mean amazon was already suspending their drone program in texas and arizona due to software issues, but this incident is just another example of the risks involved. what if there were people around? 🤦‍♂️... or kids playing outside? 😬 it's not just about the package delivery, it's about safety first! 💯 we need more regulation on these drone programs before they become a norm.

man... what's the point of all these drones flying around? we're already seeing them crash into stuff and now they're supposed to be delivering our packages with precision? it's like we're trading safety for convenience 🤔. i mean, think about it, every time someone loses control of one of these things, it's a miracle no one gets hurt. and what happens when the weather isn't perfect? you suspend operations... but now this thing just goes flying into an apartment building? that's not exactly reassuring 😅. we need to have a serious conversation about the risks we're taking with this technology. are we really worth the gamble? 💡

Ugh, another drone crash 🚨😱... like what's going on with these things?! Amazon needs to get their act together, it's been weeks since they suspended the program and now we've got people worried about safety. I mean, can't you just ensure that something like this doesn't happen before you bring it back online? 🤦‍♀️ This is exactly what people are talking about - the risks of drones flying around our cities. It's one thing to have them deliver packages in the middle of nowhere but in densely populated areas like apartments?! No thanks... just not worth it 😒

Ugh man, this is getting outta hand 🚨💥! Amazon's drone program was suspended like 2 weeks ago due to software issues and now this?! It's just not right. They're still pushing forward despite the obvious risks to people & property. What's the hurry?! This thing crashed into a building & could've hurt so many people... it's just crazy 🤯. We need stricter regulations on these drones ASAP!

😕 u guys think amazon is just gonna get away with this? like they're already testing drones in residential areas & nobody's stopped them yet 🤔 i mean, what's the plan here? how do they expect us to trust these things in our neighborhoods? we need better regulations on drone use, especially when it comes to package delivery 📦💨 amazon should've thought this through before launching their program... 🙄

Ugh, 😱 what a crazy incident! 🤯 Amazon's drone program is just too reckless 🚨💥! Can't they just wait until the weather is good enough for flying drones without risking people's lives? 💔 The thought of packages being delivered by flying machines is already sketchy enough 🕵️‍♀️, but now this... 🙅‍♂️

I mean, what kind of safety measures do these drone companies have in place? 🤦‍♂️ Apparently not much, because a little rain and suddenly you're suspending operations?! ⛈️ Like, come on! ❄️ And then they just keep flying anyway and... crash! 🚨 Boom!

I guess this is exactly why we need more regulation around these things 💡. I mean, people's lives are at risk here! 🙏 Not to mention the cost of repairs or worse, replacement drones 🤑. Amazon needs to get its act together and prioritize safety over speed 😊.

Anyway, this is just another example of tech companies thinking they can do it all without human oversight 👀. Let's not forget who we're putting our trust in here... 😳

Ugh 🤦‍♂️, can't even trust Amazon's drone program anymore 🚨. Crashing into an apartment building is just unacceptable 😱. I mean, two weeks after they suspend operations in Texas and Arizona due to software issues, and now this happens? It's like they're not taking the safety of people seriously enough 🤔.

And what's with the testing facility being in Oregon? Shouldn't that be closer to where they're actually going to use these drones for delivery? This whole thing just feels like a PR disaster waiting to happen 📰. I'm not saying Amazon is reckless or anything, but come on, you'd think they'd learn from their mistakes by now 💡.

And have you seen the video of that crash? 😳 It's like something out of a movie, people fleeing in terror as the drone comes crashing down. Not exactly the kind of "innovation" I want to see more of 🙅‍♂️. Can't we just stick with good old-fashioned delivery trucks for now? 😒

man oh man, this is so worrisome 🤯😬, I mean i get that tech is advancing fast but like what's the rush? can't we just get it right for once? 🙄 and now this happens in a residential area... people's lives are at risk here 🚨. and amazon is all like "oh no, our bad" 🤦‍♂️ but what about the ppl who got hurt? 💔 gotta be more responsible with this kinda tech, you feel me? 💯

I'm still trying to process this one 🤯... like, how can a drone just lose control and crash into an apartment building? It's crazy! I mean, Amazon suspended their drone delivery program for weeks because of some software issues with rain, but it looks like they weren't taking safety precautions seriously enough.

I'm worried about people living in these buildings - what if it happened to someone who was inside when the drone crashed? The video from the witness is pretty intense... I don't blame her for being shaken up. Amazon's gotta do a lot better than just apologizing and saying they're investigating. We need to know what went wrong here 🤔

It's also got me thinking about regulations around drones - are there enough safety standards in place? Should cities be more strict about where drone delivery companies can operate? I'm all for innovation, but not at the cost of public safety... that's just common sense.

Ugh 😩 that's so sad! What's even crazier is it happened weeks after they put their program on hold... like, what were they doing? 🤦‍♀️ I mean, I get it, tech companies are all about innovation, but safety has to be a top priority too. Like, can't you just pause the thing and figure out why it crashed in the first place? 💡 And now everyone's gonna be like "oh no, drones are too dangerous" 🚫 which is kinda true, I guess...

😬 this is super worrying... you got people & kids around those kinds of places 🤯 just imagine if it was a kid or elderly person that got hit by that thing... Amazon's suspension was probably due to some valid concerns, but crashes like this make me think they need to go back in the lab and rethink their safety protocols 🔬🚧. They gotta consider people's lives over those delivery times 💯.

omg that's so scary 🤯! i mean, amazon needs to seriously rethink their drone safety protocols ASAP 🚨. they can't just keep pushing out drones without properly testing them for real-world conditions 😬. and what if it was someone on the ground who got hurt instead of a building? 🤕 that's just not worth the risk 🙅‍♂️.

i'm surprised amazon didn't have some kind of fail-safe system in place to prevent this from happening 🤔. maybe they were trying to rush something out too quickly 💸. either way, this is a major blow to their drone delivery program 🚮. can you imagine the liability insurance premiums going through the roof 😂?

man that's so freaky 😱 they should really think about safety protocols before sending those things out into public 🤔 like what if it rains? or if there's a tree branch blocking its path? amazon's just trying to be a pioneer but they need to be more responsible 💸 we can't have drones just flying around causing chaos, especially in residential areas 🚨 these incidents are gonna make people question whether the benefits of drone delivery outweigh the risks 🤝

Ugh, this is so worrying 🤯... I mean, i totally get why amazon needs to test these things, but like, an apartment building? That's just asking for trouble 🏢😱. I'm not surprised they suspended it in texas and arizona though, those weather conditions are crazy unpredictable. And now this crash in richardson, texas... it's just too much 🤦‍♂️.

I don't think we should be too quick to judge amazon here though, they're clearly taking steps to investigate what went wrong with the drone. I mean, a software issue in oregon is one thing, but this was a completely separate incident. Maybe there's something we can learn from it? 🤔 We just need to make sure that drones are designed and used safely for these types of deliveries.

I'm all for innovation and making our lives easier with tech, but safety has to be the priority here too 💯. Can't have us flying around with no idea what's going on 😬.

🚨🔥 OMG what is going on with these drones?! I mean I know they're trying to make deliveries faster but safety should be their number one priority! This thing crashing into an apartment building in broad daylight? That's just crazy! 💥 I'm not sure what Amazon was thinking, but clearly they need to review their software and testing procedures ASAP. 🤦‍♂️ And who is going to regulate these drones?! It's like they're flying around without any oversight...this incident should be a major red flag for all of us! 😬
