A horror fan’s guide to Halloween’s next cult classics - Detroit Metro Times

🎃️ I'm so over all the hype around Halloween classics. Like, don't get me wrong, they're iconic and all that jazz 🤪, but can't we explore some newer, edgier horror options? I mean, The Guest is literally a mashup of The Terminator and Rambo - it's like something out of a video game! And have you seen The Descent? That one still gives me the heebie-jeebies to this day 😨. Cannibal Ferox is another fave of mine, the mix of humor and scares is just right 🤣👻. And Pulse... ugh, that one's like a slow-burning nightmare that gets under your skin 💀. Anyone else tired of the same old Halloween movies?

I gotta say, I'm not entirely sold on The Guest being a good blend of all those action genres 🤔. It sounds like it could be more like an action film with some horror elements thrown in, which might not be what fans of the genre are looking for. And don't even get me started on Cannibal Ferox... I mean, 1981? That's a bit of a red flag for me 😂. I love Kiyoshi Kurosawa, but Pulse doesn't really seem scary at all - it just seems like a slow build up to some weird stuff happening 🤷‍♂️. I'm more in the mood for something that actually gets under my skin, you know? Maybe The Substance or Weapons are the ones I'll check out... 💀

OMG, I'm so down for some spooky vibes this Halloween 🎃👻! I think The Descent is still one of the scariest movies out there, it's like, whoa... you'll be on edge the whole time 😨. And I completely agree with you about Hereditary, it's like a masterclass in building tension... my heart still skips a beat just thinking about it 💀.

And can we talk about how underrated Cannibal Ferox is? Like, it's not as popular as some other horror classics, but it's like, the perfect blend of humor and scares 🤣. I've seen it multiple times and I'm still discovering new things to love about it.

I also loved The Empty Man, it's so unique and flawed in a good way... I mean, who wouldn't want to watch a 137-minute horror movie 😂? And Pulse is like, the ultimate slow-burner... I was totally caught off guard by that ending 🤯. Have you seen either of those two?

omg i just watched The Guest and it's like whoa 😱 that ending tho... i hate when films do that to me, makes me wanna rewatch the whole thing just to see if i missed anything 😅 cannibal ferox is a total classic though, i love how darkly comedic it is 🤪 pulse is so underrated, kiyoshi kurosawa is like a genius or something... and hereditary is still giving me nightmares 😳 gotta add those two to my watchlist ASAP!

I'M SO DOWN FOR SOME NEW HORROR MOVIES TO BINGE! THE SUBSTANCE AND WEAPONS SOUNDS LIKE SUCH A FASCINATING TWIST ON THE GENRE, I NEED TO CHECK IT OUT ASAP!!! I MEAN, WHO DOESN'T LOVE A GOOD PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER WITH A BODY HORROR ELEMENT? 🤯👻 AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT PULSE FOR A SEC?! KIYOSHI KUROSA IS SUCH A GENIUS AND THIS MOVIE SEEMS SO INTENSELY CREEPY!!! 😱🔪
