A Chicago ride-share driver and his passenger were left feeling unwell after coming into contact with an unknown substance in a suspicious package. The unsettling encounter took place on Monday night in the Logan Square area.
The pair had picked up the mysterious parcel at a location in the 3600 block of West Palmer Street, before calling 911 to report their symptoms around 9:55 pm. Police and fire officials swiftly responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found that the driver and passenger were both feeling ill, prompting an immediate hazardous materials incident response. The hazmat team from the Chicago Fire Department was dispatched to the scene, where they carefully removed the package from the vehicle.
However, officials revealed little information about the substance or its contents. "There was no further information on the 'substance'," fire department spokesperson Larry Merritt stated.
The two individuals were subsequently transported to Humboldt Park Health hospital, where their condition is reported as fair. Area 5 detectives are currently investigating the incident.
It remains unclear what type of hazardous material was involved or how it came to be in the vehicle. As a precautionary measure, authorities took swift action to contain the situation and ensure public safety.
